We Need Your Help

This has been a rough year for all of us. During COVID-19, we found creative ways to continue operations to SERVE YOU and our COMMUNITY. We truly are YOUR community resource and WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

Funding has been significantly reduced during the pandemic. This year we were unable, with our co-sponsor, The Tewksbury Rescue Squad, to hold the annual Harvest Festival, a MAJOR fundraiser.

Now more than ever we NEED YOUR HELP so we can continue to be here for you. ANY amount helps, so please donate what you can!

There are THREE ways to donate:

•    Check: The Tewksbury Library, PO Box 49, Oldwick, NJ 08858
•    PayPal
•    On our website, click on Donate.

County Library System Joins the MAIN Library Consortium

The Hunterdon County Library system is joining with the MAIN library consortium, Morris Automated Information Network. What does this mean for our patrons? We will have access to a larger catalogue of books, and the ability to visit other libraries in the network. Digital content users will be able to expand their options by continuing with Hunterdon’s Libby app and joining MAIN’s CloudLibrary. As of Tuesday, January 12, you can look at the digital content and the full catalogue online. To log in, go to the MAIN site and sign in with your usual account information. Let’s enjoy our new access and be patient with any hiccups!

What’s Happening at the Library

• We have jigsaw puzzles available to borrow. Just stop by or give us a call!

• Local resident’s art has often graced the walls of the library, bringing more creative variety into all our lives. If you have artwork you would like to display please get in touch with us. Consider sharing quilts, hooked rugs and other forms of fiber art as well.

Please contact the Library if you are interested in these or other events.

Our Collection is Growing!

Every month, we add new books and materials to our collection for your reading pleasure. To see a list of what we added in December, please click here.

Front Porch Books:

While access to the physical Tewksbury Library is limited, we are offering a “Front Porch Books” program.

How does this work?

• Using the online system, you can request books. Our librarians will pull those books and place them in a bag for you to pick up from in front of the library. Pick up will be available on Monday through Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm, andSaturdays from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please call or e-mail ahead before you come, so we can make sure that your books are bagged and ready to go.  To return books, simply place them in our book drop.

How do i use the online system?

• If you have a specific book that you are searching for, go to the library’s online system and search for that book. Then select “Place Request,” and that's it.
• For a more general search, select a search topic (keyword, etc.), and procede from there.
• Don’t have a Library card yet? Get one! Submit the online form to get your temporary barcode.  This will give you access to borrow e-books and audio from Overdrive/Libby, and to request books and other items.

Any questions?

• Please e-mail us, or phone 908-439-3761.

Friends Update, January 2021

2020: Tewksbury Library to the Rescue!

It’s been a tough year for our community. No longer were we able to freely meet or visit with family and friends, give hugs or embrace our spontaneity.

Few have been able to live their “old” normal, and for the last 10 months we worked hard to cope with our new reality. Some of us turned to old hobbies and many developed new. Some might even say that during this time, we become our better selves. Most would say that having a good book available made many days bearable, if not enjoyable.

Because of the hard work of the library staff and volunteers, we always had the ability to have a book in hand or DVD to watch. The front-porch pickup allowed us the opportunity to travel to places, stories, and times that kept us whole—we got to go wherever we needed. It was The Friends' pleasure to support these efforts through funding the new book of the week program to help grow our local collection for both adults and children in our community.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our librarians, Joanne and Sharon, and to the trustees for giving us access to the library and the life we needed to experience.

Books We Love

Looking for a great book recommended by a trusted reviewer? Visit the Friends’ website for our monthly picks. Some books are newly published, while others are old favorites. All books are available through our library system. Check it out!

    This month’s book choice is:
American Dirt
by Jeanine Cummins

American Dirt begins with the terrifying massacre of an extended Mexican family at a Quinceanera celebration. Lydia’s husband, a journalist, has infuriated the head of a powerful cartel, provoking this deadly retribution. Hearts pounding, we watch as only Lydia and her eight-year-old son, Luca, narrowly escape the gunmen by hiding in a bathroom. As the cartel continues to search the city for them, Lydia at first turns to old friends for help. But realizing that she has now put her friends in grave danger as well, Lydia determines that their escape must be by her wits alone.

Library Services

Automated Borrower Services

The Hunterdon County Library has a new Automated Notification System which automatically phones borrowers with overdue notices. You can also dial 908-788-0592, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to access their patron information. After registering a PIN at any library in the Hunterdon County System, you will be able to renew materials and hear what items you have on loan, on hold, or overdue.

Audio Books

Your Library has a large selection of Books on CD. Many people enjoy borrowing audio books for a change of pace while commuting, to break the monotony of long trips to vacation spots, to learn a new language, or just to entertain them on a weekend afternoon.

American Literature on Video

The library has purchased The Teaching Company's "Classics of American Literature" video course. This addition is an excellent reference source. It is composed of 21 videos, and each video consists of a distinguished professor discussing a particular period of American literature. Due to space limitations, these videos are not out on shelves; please ask the librarian if you would like to check any of the videos out or to see the guides which accompany the videos.

Lifetime Reading

The New Lifetime Reading Plan, a Classic Guide to World Literature, is a list of great books, put together by Clifton Fadiman & John S. Major. The Plan is meant for readers from 18 to 80+ who are curious to see what their minds can master in the course of a lifetime. Pocket summaries of the 132 authors in the Lifetime Reading Plan, as well as a chronological list, are available to aid patrons in their reading. These classic works include fiction, essays, plays, and poetry by the world’s foremost authors and thinkers.
